Charlie has been accepted for the experiment, and he is excited about the news.  Charlie notes that the experiment will involve a surgical procedure; he also recounts how Dr. Strauss and Professor Nemur argued over his taking part in the experiment.  Strauss contends that Charlie is the best candidate because he has a strong motivation to learn, while Nemur asserts that Charlie's extremely low IQ may make adjustment to a higher mental ability difficult for him.

Analysis

This report foreshadows the difficulties Charlie will have as the experiment progresses.  It also suggests that the two scientists have a different view of their subject: Charlie Gordon.
