INVENTION OF THE MOUSE
The creation of the earliest mouse is attributed to Douglas Englebart and his colleagues at the Stanford Research Institute in 1965. The idea was further developed at Xerox Corporation's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). Englebart's first "mouse"—so named because of its "tail" of wire attaching it to the computer—was a wooden, box-like housing with wheels placed at right angles along the top. The user moved the wheels to regulate cursor movement.
