CALL TO ACTION

In the fall of 2001, bioterrorists sent letters containing deadly anthrax spores through the U.S. Postal Service to government and media employees. To bring authoritative information to the public as quickly as possible, the CDC put its web site into action. It posted information, including: facts and frequently asked questions about anthrax, smallpox, antibiotics, and vaccines; fact sheets on other types of biological and chemical agents; articles on treatment options and research findings; and instructions on how to handle mail. In addition, the web site offered the medical community information on how to test for anthrax exposure, what treatment options are available, and how to create a bioterrorism readiness plan. <http://www.bt.cdc.gov>
