OLD NORTH CHURCH

OLD NORTH CHURCH is the more common name for Christ Church in Boston. Erected in 1723, it was the second Episcopal church established in Boston and is the oldest church edifice in the city. The bells in its tower, cast in 1744 in England, were probably the first to peal in North America. The Old North Church has earned its greatest fame as the location where, on the night of 18 April 1775, a Boston patriot placed the two signal lights that indicated to Paul Revere that the British were approaching Lexington by sea and not by land.
