Art in France. The Tent of Darius, by Charles Le Brun, c. 1660. As director of the French academy and official painter to Louis XIV, Le Brun exerted enormous influence in the development of French art. He was also responsible for many of the lavish decorations in Louis’s palace at Versailles.
