Emants, Marcellus (1848-1923)Dutch author and poet who took a special interest in psychical phenomena. With the physiologist G. A. van Rijnberk, Emants took part in experiments with the famous medium Eusapia Palladino and became convinced of the genuineness of her phenomena. As a result, in 1903 Emants published an article in the Hague journal Het Vaderland proposing the foundation of a Dutch Society for Psychical Research. However, this did not take place at the time, and it was not until the efforts of G. Heymans of Groningen University that such a society was founded in 1920. |
