in battle and earns the praises from the Duke who appoints him the position of General of the Horse.
Act 3, Scene 4: The Countess receives
a letter from Helena informing her that the girl has fled so that Bertram can return home. The
Countess is saddened and upset by the news. She instructs her steward to write a letter to her
son informing him of this so that he will return home, but wants the letter filled with Helena's praises
and his own unworthiness.
