Chapter 8
Equality 7-2521 wakes with joy in his new forest home, realizing that for the first time in his life he didn't wake to a bell. Despite knowing that he's "damned," he finds himself laughing aloud, yet another sign of his break with society as he relishes his newfound freedom.
He's more than willing to find his own food for the first time in his life, enjoying the taste of the food his own hands have prepared. When he sees his reflection in a nearby stream, he realizes that he doesn't look like his peers. Though he's come a long way, he admits, there's still much to learn.
