Act 2, Scene 1
Escalus enters and tells Angelo he is being too harsh on Claudio. Angelo, however, thinks his actions are fair. He then calls the Provost and tells him to have Claudio executed by the next morning. A constable, Elbow, enters with Pompey and Froth wanting them to be punished. Pompey starts to tell his tale on how they are innocent. It is taking so long however, that Angelo gets bored, and leaves the meeting out of punishments to Escalus. Escalus listens to their stories but sends them away with threats, and no punishment. After everyone but he and the justice had left, he then expresses his sorrow at the impending death of Claudio.
