Elbow brings Pompey to jail for using a prostitute.� Lucas enters and Pompey asks him to pay his bail.� Pompey is disappointed, and Lucio asks the Friar why the Duke has gone.� He then slanders the Duke for leaving, but the Friar warns him against doing so saying that the Duke will here about it.� Escalus and the Bawd enter because the Bawd has been arrested.� She pleads for herself, but then says that Lucio, who was accusing her, has fathered an ill legitimate child as well.� The men discuss how Angelo cannot be swayed and Claudio is scheduled to die the next day.� The Friar tells Escalus that Claudio is prepared for death, and Escalus decides to visit the prisoner.�
