Don Pedro, Claudio and Benedick reconvene in a room in the house.  Don Pedro and Claudio find that Benedick is somewhat melancholy.  This is because he is still thinking about Beatrice.  The other two tease him that he is finally in love.  Benedick and Leonato leave to discuss private matters.  Don John then rushes in, bearing the bad news of Hero's supposed infidelity and impurity.  Don John promises his brother and Claudio proof of his assertions at midnight.
