Act 3, Scene 3

The watchmen Dogberry and Verges patrol the streets of Messina in search of trouble.  Borachio and Conrade also walk into the street, but they are unaware that the watchmen are listening to their conversation.  Borachio tells Conrade that he was given 1,000 ducats for his services to Don John in the scheme.  He tells Conrade about how he pretended to be "Hero's" (Margaret's) lover.  Apparently, Don Pedro and Claudio believed that the girl really was Hero and decided to publicly humiliate her the next day at the wedding.  The two watchmen, enraged at this villainy, arrest them.
