The lovelorn Benedick is futilely trying
to compose a song to Beatrice. The two lovers engage in wittily romantic dialogue. Benedick
does not know that Claudio has repented after learning the truth. He still believes that he must
duel with Claudio for Hero's honour. Ursula enters and tells the lovers that it has been proved
that Hero was wrongfully accused and that Don John was the mastermind of the scheme. Beatrice
and Benedick leave to hear the news from Leonato.
